One evening a bit braindead I was fooling around with loops. In my previous set (with Nimmi Yum Yum) I had used acoustic instruments, I mean my voice, some homemade percussion, and even an iPad accordion (ok that’s not acoustic).

The point is, recording performances is time consuming and having no chops to speak of anymore, I was exhausted.

For those who don’t know, loops are prefabricated or prerecorded snippets of music. You literally drag and drop the snippets in place one after the other, make a few adjustments and voila.

I’d never thought of using them seriously, but as I was dragging and dropping, I was liking what came about. A producer friend said to me, who cares if they’re loops or not. I’m still a little old-school though, so I’m thinking I know how to PLAY instruments! (So does he.)

Truth be told, I’ve been a fan of electronic music since the 1970s (my favorite band was Emerson, Lake and Palmer) and in the 1980s, aside from covering* lots of new wave bands, I sequencing music myself.

So there you have it.

The titles? Well they’re taken from dear friends: a DJ, a downbeat lover and someone who skips through life.

*I was in a “cover band” which plays other (well-known) bands’ music.
